The announcement of the Ministry of Education in detail

With today's announcement, the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority informs that it is proceeding with the task of upgrading the Internet connection of 437 schools throughout Cyprus, treating the strengthening of the internet infrastructure in schools as a top priority project.

According to the announcement, the implementation of the project requires in several cases the development of a new optical network, as well as the upgrade of the terminal equipment. Having completed the upgrade to 81% of the schools so far, CYTA notes that despite the fact that the project is very large in scope, complexity and requirements, the project will be completed within a month.

The upgrading of the interconnection of the schools was done on the basis of the operational needs, as they were estimated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth (YPPAN) and for this reason priority was given and the works were completed first in the lyceums and technical schools that operated with distance learning in the past and had increased needs. However, in the light of the experience of these days and depending on the needs that are formed, the Ministry of Education may ask the CYTA to proceed with further upgrading for some schools.

For this purpose, the Ministry of the Interior notes that an amount of over 500 thousand euros has been allocated for this year. The additional annual subscription cost will be 164 thousand euros, with the annual subscription reaching 430 thousand euros.
