Response of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works to articles regarding the fixed tariffs for road transport and especially to taxis. regulating fixed fares in road transport, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works wishes to clarify the following:
Fixed fares were set for a number of routes to and from Larnaca and Paphos airports. The purpose of determining the fixed fare for the specific routes is to solve the long-standing problem that mainly concerns the appropriate information of visitors/tourists in Cyprus and the passenger public in general. The setting of fixed fares is expected to give credibility to the taxi transport, as the passenger public will know in advance the exact amount they will pay, regardless of the route to be followed by the driver, the traffic on the road network and the number. In particular, the purpose of this arrangement is to avoid any overcharging for travel to and from airports, a practice which is practiced in many other European countries.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works regularly evaluates these regulations and takes into account suggestions such as the suggestions of the Cyprus Consumers Association for any regulations in the taxi sector, in order to proceed with any adjustments.
