The two leaders, Nikos Anastasiadis and Ersin Tatar, agreed on an Action Plan for the equal and effective participation of women in the Cyprus settlement process, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the UN Spokesman in Cyprus, Alim Sindik.

The statement said that in response to a request from the United Nations Security Council, in Resolution 2587 (2021), Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiadis and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar agreed on an Action Plan “on ways to ensure full equal and effective participation “of women in the process of resolving the Cyprus problem”.

The Action Plan states, “developed by the Technical Committee for Gender Equality and includes recommendations based on three key questions: how to ensure full, equal and effective representation of women, how to work with civil society, including of women's organizations, in order to hear their views, and how to include the gender perspective in the process of resolving the Cyprus issue “.

According to the communiqué, on 27 January Resolution 2618 (2022), the Security Council welcomed the Joint Action Plan to ensure the participation of women in peace talks and encouraged the parties to ensure that the needs and views of women are taken into account. into account in a future settlement of the Cyprus problem.

Finally, it is reported that the Technical Committee for Gender Equality will present the Action Plan and invite civil society, including women's organizations, to an online meeting shortly to launch a discussion on the future.
