The President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis is going to Glasgow on Sunday, October 31, where he will participate in the UN Summit on Climate Change (CoP26) hosted by the United Kingdom.
The purpose of the Summit is, inter alia, to find ways to reduce emissions by 2030, by accelerating the reduction of coal use, tackling deforestation, the use of electric vehicles and encouraging investment in renewables. energy.
The aim of the Parties to the Paris Agreement, which participate in the Summit, is to protect and restore ecosystems and to create infrastructure for the protection of the environment.
During the work of the Summit, the President of the Republic will make an Intervention with which he will refer at length to his initiative for dealing with the effects of Climate Change in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
The President of the Republic will be accompanied in Glasgow by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Costas Kadis and the Government Spokesman Mr. Marios Pelekanos.
It is noted that on the sidelines of the Summit, an event will be held on November 2, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, on the occasion of Mediterranean Day, in cooperation with the EU Secretariat for the Mediterranean, the Network of Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change and the Clima – Med Project, entitled “Action on Climate in the Mediterranean”, which will be welcomed by Mr. Kadis.
During the Summit, various topics and events will be held in which the President of the Republic will participate, including an event on combating methane use, co-organized by the US Presidency and the European Commission, led by the US President. Joe Biden and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
