Υπ. Of Transport: The extension of the schedules of the passenger buses in the province of Nicosia is implemented

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that on January 29, 2022 and February 28, 2022, the first and second phases of the implementation of the new bus route network in the Province of Nicosia will be implemented, respectively.

The long-awaited change, according to the competent ministry, is one of the requirements of the signed Public Passenger Transport Bus Agreement for the years 2020-2030 between the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works and the Nicosia Public Transport Company and aims to improve passenger service. as well as increasing the attractiveness of the bus as a means of transportation.

The study and design of the new network took into account all previous studies prepared by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, the demand for relocation between areas, comments from consultations with competent bodies and citizens, as well as the problems recorded. in previous years, mainly related to the lack of connection between the areas, which increases the passenger travel time, the reduced service hours, the low frequency, as well as the coordination of the auxiliary routes with the main ones.

The new service will provide increased frequency of service and extension of hours and will better implement the multicenter service system through the operation of the six central stations of Solomos Square, Makarios Stadium, Strovolos, General Hospital, Tamasos and Alhambra. It is important for the first time to introduce night service in central points with increased traffic, such as the city center, universities, hospitals, shopping malls, bus stations, etc. In the first phase, night service will be offered on Fridays and on Saturdays and will be re-evaluated for possible extension to other points and days. Through the above changes it is estimated that there will be a significant reduction in the duration of traffic between areas and waiting time at bus stops.

For the convenience of the customer and the improved experience during his movement, but also for productive use of his time, all buses and bus stations will have WiFi with 5G network.

In addition to the differences in routes and timetables, there will be changes in the fare policy, which has as its main goal to encourage passengers to use a personalized Motion Card and reduce the use of paper tickets, thus reducing bus boarding time. . Passengers who contribute to this policy will enjoy the same ticket prices as before, as well as additional features when using WiFi.

To avoid problems and inconvenience as well as for timely planning, the passenger public is invited to visit the website of the Nicosia Public Transport Company (https://publictransport.com.cy/newnetwork) to be informed about all the differences that will be implemented in the service by on January 29, 2022. Also, through the use of the application for mobile phones that the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has (application “Motion”) and through the application available from the Company Nicosia Public Transport (application “Pame App”), The public can receive real-time information on arrival times at all bus stops.

Finally, the passenger public is informed that for more information, suggestions, requests or even questions that may exist regarding the upcoming changes in the network and in the service, they can call the call center of the Nicosia Public Transport Company at 1416.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works and the Nicosia Public Transport Company will closely monitor the transition to the new network and service and every effort will be made to quickly resolve any issues that may arise.
