The 14th Cyprus Wine Competition, which will take place from 22 to 26 May 2023, confirms the special importance that the state attaches to the wine sector and the will for its further development. It is generally accepted that Cypriot wine has made leaps and bounds in recent years and has established itself in the consciousness of wine lovers. The Competition is organized by the Department of Agriculture and is under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Petros Xenophontos, as well as the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV).
The official launch of the Contest will be announced at a press conference on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., at the St Raphael Resort Hotel & Marina in Limassol, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Petros Xenophontos and the Mayor of Limassol Mr. Nikos Nikolaidis. Collaborating bodies with the Department of Agriculture for the organization of the Competition are the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, the Municipality of Limassol, the Cyprus Winemakers' Association, the Cyprus Graduate Winemakers' Association, the Pancypriot Winemakers' Association, the Cyprus Oinophiles' Association, the OinoArts Oinophiles' Group and the Famagusta Oinophiles' Association “Bacchus”.
The internationally prestigious jury of the Competition has seven members and is coordinated by Prof. Antonio Morata. Prof. Antonio Morata has been appointed by the International Organization of Vine and Wine as President of the Commission and supervisor of the procedures for conducting the competition. The regulation of the Competition procedures is based on the international OIV Standard entitled “Standard for International Wine and Spirituous Beverages of Vitivinicultural Origin Competitions”. May 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 pm, at the “Panos Solomonidis” Cultural Center in Limassol. During the day, the members of the Competition jury will share with the audience their experiences and expertise in the wine sector.
