The District Court of Famagusta, today imposed a prison sentence of 18 months on a 19-year-old, whom it found guilty in a case of illegal entry into the Republic, assisting third-country nationals to illegally enter the Republic of Cyprus with the intent and purpose of obtaining profit and transporting people by waterway with an unsafe and overloaded boat.
The 19-year-old was arrested on February 19, 2023, after the arrival of a boat in the sea area of ​​Famagusta, in which 20 migrants were on board.
Testimony was secured from the Police examinations according to which the 19-year-old man was the operator of the boat.
The case was investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
