2% reduction in Government employment in June

Employment in the Government showed a 2% decrease in June on an annual basis, driven mainly by the transfer of Hourly Staff from the Ministry of Health to the State Health Services Organization (OKYpY), which is included in the Broad Public Sector, starting from January 2023.< /p>

According to the data of the Statistical Service, in absolute numbers, employment in the Government showed a decrease of 1,050 people from the corresponding month of 2022 and amounted to 52,424 people.

The permanent staff recorded a decrease of 735 people or 2.8%, from 25,950 to 25,215 people. Temporary staff saw an increase of 1,420 people or 7.5%, reaching 20,400 compared to 18,980 people in the corresponding month of 2022.

According to the Statistical Service, a decrease is observed in all categories of permanent staff, while an increase is observed in all categories of temporary staff.

The biggest changes are in the permanent staff of the Public and Education Service (decrease -2.9%) and in the temporary staff of the Education Service (increase 9.1 %).

The Hourly Staff shows a decrease (-20.3%).

Compared to May 2023, Government employment increased by 0.4%. The largest increase is observed in the temporary personnel of the Security Forces (1.3%).
