Around 20 complaints are before the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority, of which approximately five have been filed by institutions and the remaining 15 by citizens, said Transparency Commissioner and President of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority Haris Pogiatzis, speaking before the members of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, which was examining the Authority's first annual budget for 2023, amounting to €1,019,173, compared to €456,000 for a 6-month budget in 2022 (July – December).

Speaking during the Committee session, which was also attended the member of the Authority Nikos Zambakidis, Mr. Pogiatzis said that many contacted the Authority to file complaints and “when we told them that the regulations of the Authority were yet to be established, they told us that they would wait”.

“Once the regulations are established, we expect a multitude of complaints”, he added.

In relation to citizens' complaints, Mr. Pogiatzis said that it will become clear during the preliminary examination whether the Authority has the authority to examine these complaints , stressing that the Authority “will do its job as it should”.
