The 2nd Festival of Easter Traditional Toys took place on the afternoon of Easter Tuesday in the Square of October 28 in front of the Municipal Palace of Paphos in Paphos, with the participation of the children's dance classes of the Ktima Folklore Group, which presented traditional and folk dances. Paphos and the Folklore Club organized traditional games in which everyone was free to participate.
Christakis Papanikolaou, president of the Ktima Folklore Group, said that the Festival has become an institution, noting that the Easter's brilliant games should be spread to younger generations. Mr. Papanikolaou stressed that the Folklore Club Ktima has registered in the National Catalog of Unesco the traditional Easter games and every year he organizes, as he said, a festival in which many communities of Paphos take part.
On his part, the Mayor of Paphos, Faidonas Faidonos, expressed his satisfaction for the organization and congratulated the Folklore Club Ktima, which, as he said, tries to maintain our traditions.
At the event the audience, young and old had the opportunity to take part in Easter games such as Ziziros, the handkerchief, the river, the sillos jia bone, rope, egg races, bag races, broom, dijimi and all the other games that have been recorded from the Folklore Group Estate in the National Catalog of UNESCO. All participants were given commemorative medals at the end.
It is noted that the event is under the auspices of the Cyprus National Commission of Unesco and is supported by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and the Municipality Paphos.
