The death of a 30-year-old from Covid-19 and 60 new cases from 53,864 disease detection tests with the molecular method (PCR) and the method of antigen rapid detection (antigen rapid test) announced the Ministry of Health, with patients in public hospitals reaching 38 , of which 15 in serious condition.

The Ministry of Health announces that today, June 11, 2021:

  • One person has died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 372.
  • 38 COVID-19 patients are being treated, of which 15 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 53,864 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test method.
  • 60 (positivity rate: 0.11%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 73,115 .

The current results are detailed. 

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

One person who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 is:

  • A 30-year-old man who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 372, of which:

  • 249 men (67%), and
  • 123 women (33%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 38 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 15 are in serious condition or with MAF conditions.

Of the 15 patients in serious condition, eight are intubated, one is admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and six to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 53,864 diagnoses made today, 6,314 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 47,550 by the antigen rapid test method, 60 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 14 cases from 251 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 4 cases of 3,271 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 15 cases from 2,364 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 1 case from 232 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 26 cases from 47,196 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method. 

In addition, the following tests were performed without detecting a case:

  • 196 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 354 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
