Having completed 24 years of presence in the Cypriot market, McDonald 's restaurants are preparing this year to increase the number of stores that maintain Cypriot in a time of crisis. Speaking to the radio program Insider and Socrates Joachim and Mario Russo, the manager of the company's General Manager Family Restaurants Andreou Co. Ltd Renos Andreou revealed the areas where the company will be expanded.
“Today 18 McDonald's restaurants throughout free Cyprus. This year we plan to open four new restaurants and specifically in the Metropolis Mall in Larnaca, in an area next to the Jumbo also in Larnaca, in the discount village in Kokkinotrimithia and in the old port of Limassol. At the same time, at the beginning of 2022, our new restaurant in Anthoupolis in the municipal borders of Lakatamia will be operational “, he said.
Answering a question about the impact that the pandemic had on their financial results, Mr. Andreou stressed that although they did better than they expected, they experienced a double-digit decrease in their turnover.
He added that today only two restaurants of the company remain temporarily closed in Ayia Napa and Protaras, stressing, however, that no employee was fired by the company, due to the support they received from the government.
Regarding the issue of rents, he stated that 5 of their 18 stores are privately owned, while in some of the rest that they rent, a reduction of 15-20% was made after an agreement.
Finally, referring to the existing competition, he described it as welcome, adding, however, that on the one hand Mc Donald's holds by far the first place and that in his opinion there is no room in the Cypriot market for new players from abroad.
