Three days. A “gift” that we enjoy every year in full and this year will not be an exception. Friday, Saturday and Sunday we have them at our disposal for excursions either to enjoy nature or to try food against the backdrop of a beautiful village in the province of Limassol. Together with the Wiz-Guide we have selected and presented 6 villages that will pique your interest and you will love.
Northwest of Limassol is the village of Kouka, which is among the preserves of Limassol since everything is restored to maintain their traditional character. The village is known for the church of the Holy Cross, which is the oldest in Cyprus and in it there is the Cross “of Koukas” with scraps of Holy Wood. In the community there is also the new museum that presents the viticulture of the village. (photo: Cyprus Alive)
For food: Taverna Kouka . Tavern located in the homonymous village which is one of the smallest in the province of Limassol. The area is located directly opposite the village church and offers delicacies and ala kart options in a well-kept traditional environment with stone and wood dominating. In the winter months they light the fireplace. Often with live music.
On a walk in Pentakomo you will meet the Church of Panagia Neroforousa, which is built on an older church, and the chapel of Agios Ioannis. You can also visit the community park, while the village “belongs” to Governor's Beach. (photo: Hellenica World)
For food: Iris Cafe Bar. Modern traditional cafe on the main street of the village of Pentakomo. In a large, cool, paved courtyard full of pots and trees and with a strong element of tradition in the decoration, you will try various snacks, souvlaki, cool drinks and well-groomed Cypriot coffee. The space also has a spacious playground. Hookah is also offered.
A picturesque village in the green. On a walk in the village, the community park, the village playground and the botanical garden of the mine can give you moments of relaxation and tranquility. If you are more of an explorer, there is also the abandoned hospital, which needs attention as it is an old building. (photo: @cypruspixels)
For food: Amiandos Garden . Family cult tavern in the village of Amiantos offers rich dishes of Cypriot cuisine such as baked spaghetti, cups and spit. Sundays and holidays with buffet, friendly service.
Picturesque streets around the square for walking, handmade in the shops, nature trails to explore, the beautiful Pissouri will not disappoint you. In the center of the village, above the square, you meet the church of Apostolos Andreas and it is also worth passing by the chapel of Agios Spyridon, built in a rock, and from which you will face a stunning view of the village, the bay and sea. For food: Vrakas . Picturesque tavern in the village square in Pissouri where you can make a stop and enjoy delicious barbecue and spit options on Sundays. In addition, the tavern offers a traditional breakfast or English breakfast in the morning and then continues with the lunch and evening options.
A picturesque village whose alleys will captivate you. Taking your walks in the narrow streets of the village you can visit the Museum of Folk Art, the nature trail “Six Fountains” (which connects six medieval fountains along the river), the village church dedicated to the Apostle Philip and located in center of the village, as well as a winery. For food: Buy. It is located in the square of the picturesque village of Alsos in the province of Limassol. In a stone-built area, you will enjoy traditional mommy recipes such as stew, meatballs, grilled meats and cooked meals all with fresh pure ingredients. In winter we spend a nice time by the fireplace while in summer it brings tables outside under the cool arbor.
In one of the most beautiful areas of Troodos, 30 km from Limassol, is the mountain resort of Moniatis which in recent years has developed without sacrificing its traditional character. Nature everywhere, with many paths to walk and study. There are also religious sites such as the historic monastery of Timios Prodromos dating from 1468, the church of Archangel Michael, the village church dedicated to Panagia Odigitria and two chapels. For food: Makris Restaurant . It is located on the main road Limassol-Platra, surrounded by greenery, since it is hidden in the forest. This is a one-storey building where you will enjoy simple, quality, Cypriot cuisine. The restaurant organizes wedding and engagement receptions, christenings and parties. On selected days of the year, such as the Fifteenth of August, the New Year, the Monday and the Tuesday of Easter, but of course every Sunday, the reservation of a table is a necessary condition. The wine list consists of selected wines of the region.
