852 traffic offenses in one week – Checks on buses and trucks

243 complaints were registered about tachographs, 44 for violating the speed limit and 33 complaints for not using a lane

The police detected 852 traffic violations in just one week.

As part of Roadpol's European Week of information and checks, the Force carried out truck and bus driving checks.

The week of information and checks took place from Monday, February 19, to Sunday, February 25, as part of cooperation between the Cyprus Police and the European Traffic Police Network – Roadpol.

During the week, which was held simultaneously in all European countries, the Cyprus Police in collaboration with the Road Transport Department, carried out a Cyprus-wide traffic control campaign, with the participation of members of the Headquarters Traffic Department, including specialized members of the Engineering Control Office, of the Traffic Department.

The focus was on the technical and mechanical control for the condition and suitability of buses and trucks, which were detected being driven on the road network. At the same time, vehicle documents were checked, as well as the documents of professional bus and truck drivers.

During the Cyprus-wide campaign, a total of 688 lorries were checked and the following 852 traffic violations were detected and reported:

– 243 complaints about tachographs

– 44 complaints about violation of the speed limit

– 3 complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

– 13 complaints of exceeding the driving time limit

– 40 complaints of excessive or unsafe load

– 47 complaints about worn tires

– 33 complaints about not wearing a seat belt

– 429 complaints about various other traffic violations

At the same time, 154 buses were also checked. These checks resulted in 39 complaints, most of which (35) are related to vehicle documents.

Daily traffic checks are continued by the Police, always with the aim of preventing serious and fatal road collisions. , increasing road safety and cultivating and strengthening road awareness.
