Government employment in December 2020 increased by 255 people (0.4%) compared to the corresponding month of 2019 and reached 52,695 people, according to the Statistical Service, mainly due to the significant increase of 20%, which occurred to the extraordinary staff of the Educational Service.
In permanent staff there is a decrease of 968 people (-3.5%), from 27,849, to 26,881 people, while in temporary staff there is an increase of 1,403 people (8.7%) reaching 17,556 compared to 16,153 people in December 2019 .
More specifically, in relation to December 2019, there is an increase in the staff of the Educational Service (3.6%) and in the staff of the Public Service (0.3%) while in the staff of the Security Forces there is a decrease (-0.9%) .
There is a decrease in the permanent staff in all three categories, with the staff of the Public Service showing the largest (-3.9%).
On the contrary, there is an increase in the temporary staff in all three categories with the staff of the Educational Service showing the largest increase by 20.0%.
Moreover, in relation to November 2020, according to the Statistical Service, in December 2020 there is an increase in the staff of the Educational Service (0.9%) while there is a decrease in the staff of the Public Service (-0.3%) and in Security Forces personnel (-0.1%).
In the permanent staff there is a decrease in the staff of the Public Service (-0.2%) and in the staff of the Security Forces (-0.1%).
In the temporary staff there is an increase in the staff of the Educational Service (2.5%) while a decrease is recorded in the staff of the Public Service (-0.4%) and in the staff of the Security Forces (-0.1%).
