Latchi: Refugees paid $ 2,000 - Arrest of three people

The Paphos Police arrested three people, against whom a written testimony emerged that they were navigating the two boats on which 305 migrants were aboard in Latsi. According to information from politis.com.cy, the arrested are known to the authorities for such action and therefore their details were given to Europol.

In their testimonies, the refugees stated that they paid two thousand dollars each to board the boats. The first boat, with 134 refugees, was towed around 10 at night in Latsi, while the second with 171 passengers, around midnight in Kato Pyrgos, Tillyria. Members of the relevant services rushed to the areas to provide assistance to the refugees, who are in good health. Asked about this, the Commander of the Foreigners and Immigration Service (YAM) Glykerios Leontiou, stated that these are 207 men, 25 women, 46 minor boys, 27 minor girls, of which 17 are unaccompanied. He added that the refugees were in Turkey for a period of one to ten months, until they found a way to board the boats.

In Kokkinotrimithia

A woman and her 10-day-old baby were taken to the General Hospital for examination. The refugees, who started from Mersina, were transferred to the Polis Chrysochous police station to record and evaluate their data, while today they will be transferred to the Hospitality Center in Kokkinotrimithia.
