Cyprus / Covid19: Eight of our fellow human beings have died - 2,499 new cases, 224 patients are being treated

The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 26, 2022 :

  • Eight deaths were reported from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 724.
  • 224 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 75 are in serious condition. 75% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.
  • 19 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in a severe condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
  • A total of 92,276 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test method.
  • 2,499 (positivity rate: 2.71%) new cases of COVID-19 were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 243,818.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

The 8 deaths reported with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:

– A 72-year-old man, who ended up on January 23 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

– A woman, aged 88, who ended up on January 25 at the Limassol General Hospital.

– A 91-year-old woman who died on January 25 at the Limassol General Hospital.

– A 83-year-old woman who died on January 26 at Larnaca General Hospital.

– An 86-year-old man who died on January 26 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

– Woman, 85 years old, who ended up on January 26 at the General Hospital of Nicosia.

– A woman, 81 years old, who ended up on January 26 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

– A woman, 64 years old, who ended up on January 26 in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 724, of which:

  • 450 men (62.2%), and
  • 274 women (37.8%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76.2 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 224 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 75 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 75 patients who are in serious condition, 34 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an intravenous intensive care unit and 37 in an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 92,276 diagnoses made, 5,190 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 87,086 by the method of antigen rapid test, 2499 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 64 cases from 411 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 21 cases from 921 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 360 cases from 3,343 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 45 cases from 279 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1,158 cases from 47,918 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 837 cases from 39,168 samples that were examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
  • 14 cases from 234 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.

In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:

  • Cases of 2 samples taken as part of closed structure tests.
