Nicosia has officially taken the first step to becoming the first smart city in Cyprus. On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, the two contracts were signed for the start of the project “Supply, installation and operation of infrastructure and smart city systems”, proceeding to the implementation of the Integrated Smart City Strategy 2018-2028, of the Municipality of Nicosia, which is already being implemented the last five years.
The Municipality of Nicosia aspires to make this project a model project for the design and implementation of similar smart city projects. The project will be co-financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds, the Republic of Cyprus and the Municipality of Nicosia and is divided into two sections that will be implemented through the strategic cooperation of organizations, led by Logicom Solutions for the first section (Lot 1) and CYTA for second part (Lot 2).
EY is proud to participate in the implementation of Lot 2 as a strategic partner of CYTA, together with Newcytech, Nokia and Yodiwo. The second part (Lot 2) concerns the design and implementation of smart city systems and includes, among others, the installation of smart lighting, environmental sensors, smart waste monitoring system, the development of integrated sustainable mobility system, the development of applications for traffic control and solutions for smart management and information for finding parking spaces (smart parking).
EV, taking advantage of its experience in transformation projects of public bodies and organizations, will contribute effectively to this very important project by providing services related to project management, the required transformation of business functions, change management and training, information security and the architecture of smart solutions.
The duration of the project is expected to be 36 months but the first infrastructure and smart city systems will be available within 2021.
