The replacement of the temporary detention of Petros Filippides with the imposition of restrictive conditions was decided by the Mixed Jury Court of Athens.
Upon hearing the decision, the actor's wife and son, who were in the hall burst into sobs.
The court's decision was unanimous. Thus, the temporary detention that was imposed on the actor immediately after his apology to the investigator, about a year ago, is replaced with the following conditions: Ban on leaving the country, appearing twice a month at a police station in his area and imposing bail 20,000 euros.
The guarantee must be paid within ten days.
The court decided, as announced by its president, that the accused actor is not suspected of fleeing and, given today's data, there is no risk of him committing new crimes.
The actor, as it became known this morning and was announced to the audience and his advocates, is hospitalized in a public hospital with a stroke. “Diabetes is a disease that sweeps the vessels and the person dies. His father died of the same disease at the age of 62. They said that Philippides has nothing! And we've arrived here” the lawyer of the accused actor Michalis Dimitrakopoulos told the audience, adding that his client “is fighting for his life”.
In fact, he emphasized that the actor told him he wanted to come in court, despite his health condition. “He told me that they might make fun of me, that they will say that he is acting. I answered him that the machines that show the damage to his health are not acting,” said Mr. Dimitrakopoulos.
Mr. Dimitrakopoulos raised the issue of replacing the temporary detention of his principal either with a bracelet (under house arrest) or with the imposition of restrictive conditions. “We request that he be released with electronic monitoring with a bracelet, to leave his house for the hospital until the trial is over,” said Mr. Dimitrakopoulos and clarified that this is the auxiliary request.
“Our main request is to replace his temporary detention with restrictive conditions, but without a guarantee, there is no possibility of paying even five thousand euros,” the advocate explained and emphasized that there is no reason for the continuation of his client's temporary detention.
Continuing, Mr. Dimitrakopoulos emphasized that his client suffered an “ischemic heart attack”, as shown by the CT scan. “He wanted to leave the hospital and the doctors wouldn't let him. Nevertheless, he got up and returned to Korydallos prisons, because he wanted to be here. Early today he collapsed and was readmitted to the hospital. This is a very serious episode, due to the underlying disease of diabetes,” said the advocate.
And he added: “He is currently hospitalized and because he is a prisoner, his wife and son were not allowed to enter. With these data, is Petros Filippidis suspected of committing new crimes to keep him in prison for another six months? He is completely numb to what he has been through.
