A 21-year-old man was taken into custody who tried to leave Paphos airport on Thursday with forged documents.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Michalis Ioannou, yesterday afternoon a member of the center control at Paphos airport was carrying out passport control of departures, when a man presented himself there for departure for a flight to Rome, who presented a Bulgarian passport and a Bulgarian identity card.

During the passport control it was found that at first glance the most above documents were forged after both failed the security checks on the travel document identification and control device.

Subsequently, the 21-year-old was taken into custody and further checks confirmed his details. It became clear that on 30.9.2022 he submitted an asylum application, which is still pending. The 21-year-old was arrested and taken into custody for the offense of impersonation. He was subsequently re-arrested with a court warrant for the offenses of forgery and circulation of a forged document.
