A 27-year-old man is in custody for the kidnapping of a 23-year-old man in Paphos

A 27-year-old man was detained for the kidnapping case of a 23-year-old man in Paphos, to facilitate investigations.

According to the Office of the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, an arrest warrant had been issued against the 27-year-old man , was arrested just before 4pm on Thursday and placed  in custody while police search for five other persons.

According to the evidence under review, shortly after 5:20 on Wednesday afternoon, on a street in Eba, in the Paphos district, six suspicious persons attacked a man, who was then taken to a car and fled while driving the vehicle.

Members of the Police rushed to the area for examinations and identification of the kidnapping victim and the perpetrators. After the tests carried out confirmed the details of the 23-year-old kidnapping victim, at around 10:30 on Wednesday night members of the Police went to his residence, where they located him.

According to the 23-year-old, the six unknown assailants approached him while he was walking in the Empas area and persistently invited him to go with them to their home. After he refused and tried to run away, the suspects stopped him and attacked him. They then forcibly carried him to their car, with which they drove him to another area, where they abandoned him.

On the way, the perpetrators allegedly attacked the 23-year-old, while they also allegedly stole his wallet, which contained a small amount of money. The 23-year-old became aware of the possible theft of the wallet when, around 9:30 on Wednesday night, he managed to return to his residence on foot.

After being located by members of the Police, the 23-year-old was taken to Pafos General Hospital , where it was found that he had abrasions and ecchymosis on various parts of his body, and after receiving treatment, he was discharged.

He was subsequently arrested for illegally staying on the territory of the Republic.

The identification of the 23-year-old kidnapping victim was preceded at around 7.15 in the evening by the identification of the car allegedly used by the perpetrators of the kidnapping. The car was spotted by members of the OPE Paphos, in a parking lot, in a building in the area of ​​Tremithousa, in the district of Paphos. The car was searched by members of the Police, who found various items, including a wallet with a small amount of money. The wallet was presented to the 23-year-old complainant, who identified it as his stolen wallet.

Investigations revealed that the registered owner of the car had recently sold his vehicle to the 27-year-old arrested, however the necessary procedures for the transfer of ownership of the vehicle were not carried out. The ownership transfer form was found inside the car, during the investigation carried out by the members of the Police.

The car used by the alleged perpetrators was taken to the Paphos Police Department for further examination.
