A 34-year-old Iraqi man who had entered our country in 2018 from Lesvos and had submitted two asylum applications which had been rejected while the decision of the administrative court was pending, was arrested at noon in the center of Athens, accused of participating in the terrorist organization ISIS.
The 34-year-old father of four children was targeted by the Anti-terrorist and the EYP, when a few days ago an urgent signal arrived that mentioned specific actions taken by the jihadist in 2014 and 2015 and requested his location and arrest. Thus, Antiterroristi and EYP moved immediately, located and arrested the ISIS member, confiscated his mobile phone while the searches in specific houses that lived in the center of Athens are in full swing.
The police issued the following statement:
At noon today (Monday, October 4, 2021) a 34-year-old foreigner was arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Service (DAEEV), accused of participating in the terrorist organization ISIS. Specifically, after utilizing information provided by foreign collaborating services and in collaboration with the National Intelligence Service (NIS), he was located in the center of Athens and arrested.
In the morning hours of 05/10/2021 he will be brought before the Prosecutor of the Athens Court of First Instance.
