A 34-year-old's cry of despair: "You have to anticipate that you will remain a quadriplegic"

The 34-year-old Christos Chatzidimitriou, husband and father of a 7-year-old girl, who after an accident in June 2021 was a quadriplegic, spoke on the Protoselido show.

The 34-year-old applied for Minimum Guaranteed Income (MIG), which, according to a letter from the Welfare Benefits Administration, was rejected on the grounds that there was a "alienation of deposits" from his bank accounts before he became disabled.

Specifically, he said "for the process of approving my request to receive the allowance in question, they asked me for a statement account from 2016 and my request was rejected because I alienation of deposits before the accident». He then added that after his request was denied, he was told he would have to send data from 2014. After his request was denied, he appealed, recently and is waiting.

Commenting on this whole situation he is living in, Christos characteristically said "you have to anticipate that you will have an accident and be a quadriplegic for life and suffer in order not to alienate assets. It's a joke, so I take it personally.

Regarding the Paraplegic Organization of Cyprus, he said that "We are in constant communication with the organization. I sent a letter to the competent body on the matter and like me they are also waiting for an answer to solve some issues we have.

Finally, regarding the current income he receives, he stated that "I live with a severe mobility disability pension that I receive, I think it perceived that it is not enough». Meanwhile, he added that “if I receive the benefit, the income of my wife is also taken into account, who is also low-paid, and I may be entitled to a very reduced benefit due to income, which is an issue because the cost of disability is very high and it cannot be covered by the prescription or a low salary».
