Around 11.50 last night, while an 18-year-old with another 18-year-old as a passenger was driving his car exiting Nikos Kavvadia Street towards Spyrou Trikoupi Street in Lakatamia, under conditions investigated by the Police, he lost control and after initially crashing as far to the right and on the left sidewalk of the street, then dragged and injured four 16-year-old girls, who were in front of an adjacent supermarket wall.
The four young women were transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Nicosia, where a girl underwent amputation of her left leg after surgery, with her condition being considered critical. The second 16-year-old was detained for treatment after suffering a fracture in her leg, ribs and pelvis while she is expected to undergo surgery. The other two young women were given first aid and were discharged.
The driver of the car was tested for alcohol and drugs with a negative result, after which he was arrested on a warrant and detained.
Lakatamia Police Station continues the examinations.
