A fire broke out in a cafeteria in the occupied castle of Agios Hilarion.
It is reported from the occupied areas that the fire broke out around 16:45 and its causes remain unknown.
The fire is raging out of control and in addition to the “police” and the “fire brigade”, men of the occupying army rushed to the area. The cafeteria was closed due to anti-pandemic measures and it is being investigated whether the fire broke out due to lightning.
According to Turkish Cypriot media, the fire is visible from Kyrenia and there is intense concern about the historic castle and forest in the area.
The “Director” of the Fire Service, Ahmet Ozmenek, said in a statement that the fire in the Castle of Agios Hilarion was in difficult conditions. Speaking to the Turkish Cypriot news agency, Ozmenek explained that the flames had not yet been brought under control and efforts had been made to prevent them from spreading to the forest.
