The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Costas Kadis and the new Ambassador of Japan to Japan expressed their political will to further strengthen the cooperation relations between Cyprus and Japan in the fields of agriculture, fisheries and environment on Monday in a formal meeting. .

According to GTP, during the meeting, the desire of Japan to create a park of Japanese cherries in Cyprus was discussed, as well as the actions taken so far for this purpose, with the selection of the village of Kampos as the most suitable place.

The Ambassador of Japan expressed her gratitude for the constructive cooperation she had with the Department of Forestry for this purpose and her interest in the inauguration of the park, during the next cherry blossom or in the context of the cherry festival in Kampos in 2022 , and its intention to promote the park as a tourist destination for the Japanese and other tourists in Cyprus.

Mr. Kadis and Ms. Seki agreed that the inauguration of the Japanese Cherry Park will be an excellent opportunity that will mark the 60th anniversary of Cyprus-Japan diplomatic relations.

The Minister of Agriculture also informed Ms. Seki about the areas of action and the immediate priorities of the Ministry of Agriculture and made special reference to the initiative announced by the President of the Republic for regional cooperation and coordination of actions, to address climate change in the wider Eastern region. Mediterranean.

“As part of the implementation of the initiative, which is underway with the participation of a large number of distinguished scientists, Cyprus, in cooperation with other countries of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, has set the goal of drawing up a comprehensive Regional Action Plan to address and “Adapting to the effects of climate change, thus contributing to the implementation of the Paris Agreement”, said Mr. Kadis.

Mr. Kadis also referred to the green dimension of the national Recovery and Sustainability Plan, which includes, inter alia, actions related to climate change and the circular economy.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to confirm the excellent relations between the two countries and to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in a wide range of responsibilities of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.
