According to an announcement by AKEL, Mr. Kyprianou said that “today is the culmination of the democratic processes which we started with all the difficulties caused by the pandemic shortly before Christmas”.
“We have contacted several thousand members of AKEL executives and friends from whom we have asked to submit their proposals for candidates in the run-up to the upcoming parliamentary elections,” he said, adding that the list gathered clarified the question of whether they are interested in the specifics. persons who had been proposed “.
“At the moment we have a number of around 100 people from all over Cyprus from whom the elected members of their party will choose 56 who will staff the AKEL Left New Forces ballots on a nationwide basis,” he added.
The AKEL General Secretary said that no other political party has followed such a democratic process, adding that in other political parties the leaders usually determine what the ballot will be. “In our case, 2,000 AKEL executives today will decide who will be the 56 who will staff the ballot. “This confirms and proves that we are by far the most democratic party .”
He also said that it was not possible to hold live conferences as in previous election contests and added that today the election process will be held only with special permission from the government and on Saturday the Central Committee will meet to ratify the ballots which will be approved by the conferences.
