The cooperation between the National Betting Authority (EAS) and the Gaming Supervision and Control Commission (EEEP), the Greek authority corresponding to the EAS, is being put on a new basis.
In particular, the two supervisory authorities proceeded on July 31, 2023 to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation, in the context of a meeting of their presidents, Ioanna Fiakkou and Dimitriou Dzanatou, respectively, in Athens, with the aim of more effectively exercising their powers and responsibilities.
The signing of the memorandum is part of the Strategic Planning of the National Betting Authority for the period 2023-2025, which, among other things, defines as a priority the strengthening of partnerships at national and international level to strengthen expertise and improve the exchange of information.
This is an important development, since on the basis of the Memorandum the two authorities agreed on the exchange of supervisory data and information with the aim of more effectively executing their responsibilities. EAS and EEEP also agreed to maintain open channels of communication to deal with emergency issues, as well as to hold special meetings of their relevant officials for the issues that arise.
The Memorandum also provides for the organization of joint professional education and training activities, the promotion of technical knowledge and innovations, the assurance of a safe and legal gambling environment, as well as the protection of players from the risks involved in gambling.
In her statements, the President of EAS, Ioanna Fiakkou, pointed out that “the Memorandum of Cooperation aims to further deepen our cooperation with the Gaming Supervision and Control Committee. In this way we will strengthen and ensure the effectiveness of the control exercised by the two competent authorities”. Mrs. Fiakkou reminded that the EAS Strategic Planning for the period 2023-2025 spans four main axes:
- Upgrading the Regulatory Framework and Supervisory Role
- Ensuring the protection of the players and the wider society
- The development and modernization of the Branch
- The optimization of the Internal Organizational Function of the Authority
For the implementation of the Authority's strategic goals, the strategy of strengthening and consolidating partnerships, the exchange of views and the adoption of best practices is determined as a priority. “According to the strategic planning of the Authority, the strengthening of collaborations at national, European and international level create the channels for the modernization and sustainability of gambling, the safeguarding of the public interest and public health, and the Memorandum is part of this framework of cooperation we agreed with EEEP”, explained Mrs. Fiakkou.
The President of EEEP, Mr. Dzanatos, noted for his part: “It is with great pleasure that we launch our new collaboration with EAS and we are happy that we will be given the opportunity to collaborate and solve common problems, goals and exchange know-how in the field of gambling . The exchange of ideas and opinions over time contributes to the consolidation of friendships and a better understanding of issues related to supervision and regulation”.
