The message sent by the expatriates of the organizations POMAC, PSEKA and NEPOMAC with a text adopted yesterday during the Session of the Central Council of Diaspora Cypriots and the World Youth Congress POMAK in Nicosia
A message for harmonious coexistence between the two communities in Cyprus which will strengthen the efforts to resolve the Cypriot issue, are sent by the expatriates of the POMAC, PSEKA and NEPOMAC organizations with a text adopted yesterday during the Central Council Meeting Cypriot Diaspora and the POMAC World Youth Congress in Nicosia.
As mentioned in the text, in the context of their presence in Cyprus and their participation in the World Congress of Youth POMAC and the Central Council of Cypriots of the Diaspora, the expatriates underline their desire and pursuit to achieve harmonious relations between the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities in Cyprus in the context of a reunited homeland with full guarantee of freedom, democracy and human rights and fundamental freedoms for all its citizens.
“Despite the wounds that have been kept open for 50 years in Cyprus and despite the continued occupation by Turkish troops and Turkey's continuous provocations on the territory and in the maritime zones of the Republic, we are convinced that the peaceful past and harmonious relations of the two communities as and their common desire to solve the problem are a positive basis for ensuring the viability of a solution that will ensure a reunified, independent, federated Cyprus without occupying troops and settlers, demilitarized, sovereign, with one citizenship, and an international personality, based the principles and resolutions of the UN, the Summit Agreements, international law and the European acquis without deviations, where human and political rights and basic freedoms will be guaranteed for all its legal residents”, it states.
< p>It is noted that ensuring the viability of the solution to the Cyprus issue is strengthened by its basic guarantee parameters such as the status of a member state of the Republic in the EU, which brings benefits to both communities while guaranteeing the safety of all the citizens of Cyprus.
The expatriates call on the Turkish Cypriots, including the expatriate Turkish Cypriots, to unite their forces and action by calling with one voice for the lifting of the Turkish occupation and the reunification of our homeland, condemning the illegal actions of the occupying forces in the dead zone and in Varosia. Such actions, as the expatriates emphasize, dynamize the efforts made by the international community and the Republic to restart the talks to resolve the Cyprus issue.
“We call on our Turkish Cypriot compatriots to help support the efforts to restart of the negotiation process within the parameters of the UN and the Good Office Mission of the United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG), in order to achieve progress towards a sustainable and workable solution,” the text added.
At the same time, the expatriates consider it their important and collective duty to work together so that the city of Famagusta is returned to its legal residents, as provided for by the relevant UN resolutions and especially resolutions 541/84 and 789/92, without prerequisites and conditions , as well as to adopt other confidence-building measures, which will give new momentum to the negotiations and will be mutually beneficial for the two communities.
They emphasize that adherence to the decisions and resolutions of the UN, compliance with the International Law and the full implementation of the European Acquis are a guarantee for ensuring the human rights and individual freedoms of all.
“We wish to live in a security regime through a viable and functional solution which cannot be guaranteed by the creation of separate states or a confederation, or some other form of solution with dichotomous features. This homeland is ours, and it belongs to all Cypriots”, concludes the resolution.
