Yesterday, the Police proceeded with the arrest of a person, to facilitate investigations regarding an investigated case of assisting illegal entry into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, after the arrival of a boat carrying immigrants, in the sea area of ​​Famagusta.< /p>
Specifically, around 9am. yesterday, detected by the radars of the Coast Guard & Maritime Police, a suspected target in the sea area southeast of Cape Greco. Immediately a police officer sailed to the area, where she located a small boat, on which 20 migrants were on board, including 12 men, two women and six minors, aged between one and 17.
The migrants were safely transported in the Marina of Ayia Napa, where all the relevant services were called.
During the relevant investigations, it was established that the vessel had sailed from Syria on February 18, 2023. Testimony also emerged against one of the passengers of the boat, aged 19, who was said to be the driver of the boat. A judicial arrest warrant was issued against him, pursuant to which he was arrested and detained, to facilitate investigations.
The arrested person was brought before the District Court of Famagusta which issued a four-day detention order.
The remaining passengers of the boat, after the completion of the procedures, were transferred to the Pournara Hospitality Center.
