The Kurds declare that they do not accept any exchange for the human rights of their leader
The issue of the imprisonment of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan is raised again by the Kurds of Cyprus, who are holding, from yesterday Monday, a three-day event outside the Limassol District Administration, distributing educational material.
As stated in a document of the Kurdish Assembly of the Democratic Communities of Europe (KCDK-E), entitled “No trade-offs for Ocalan's human rights,” Turkey reportedly promised to allow his brother and his legal team access if the Kurdish movement made certain concessions.
< p class="text-paragraph">The Kurds declare that they will not accept any exchange for the human rights of their leader and call on the Council of Europe and the Committee against Torture of the Council of Europe (CPT) to send a delegation to Imrali prison and increase pressure on the Turkish side to allow Ocalan's legal advisers to visit.
“We are extremely concerned about the pressure on Ocalan through this absolute isolation”, it is added.
Finally, they note that the fight for the freedom of the Kurdish leader will continue and it is underlined that his release will mean a political solution to the Kurdish issue.
