The transmission of COVID-19 in two specific wards at the Paphos General Hospital started from the visitation office, according to OKYpY Press Representative, Charalambos Charilaou, who noted that the situation is being closely monitored .
In his statements to KYPE, Mr. Charilaou stated that there were two small chains of transmission, in two specific wards at Paphos General Hospital. Subsequently, “the patients were immediately transferred to the COVID-19 clinic, all the necessary actions were taken, tests were carried out on both the staff and the patients and it became clear that none of the staff is positive”, he said, adding that the conclusion drawn is that “the transmission comes from the visitation”.
As a result, visits to the specific wards were prohibited for two to three days, so that the recheck can be done, he added.
Our appeal to the public, he continued, is to follow the protocol of visiting for a negative rapid test 24 hours, that there should be one visitor per patient for a few minutes and that a mask be used, as provided for in the protocol.
When asked if any measures are being taken, Mr. Harilaou said that they are closely monitoring the situation, they have a constant number of hospitalized patients, around 90 and that the situation with regard to COVID-19 is manageable. He also added that if it is necessary to open more beds, they will do so.
Finally, he called on the public to follow the instructions of the experts, to avoid crowded areas, to keep their distance, to wear their masks anyway in order to avoid further dispersion in society.
