The Commissioner for Administration and Protection of Human Rights, Maria Stylianou-Lottidis, in a report she drew up after investigating a complaint submitted by a woman regarding the grant of a grave she had bought to another person from the Talas Community Council, concludes with her recommendation to immediately implement the decision of the Community Council for the return of the amount of 1000 paid by the complainant, for the purchase of the two consecutive graves in the Talas Cemetery, as the minimum compensation, for the inconvenience and mental anguish she suffered from the above described incident.
In her report the Commissioner notes that it is undisputed that the Community Council's error caused great distress to the complainant, who, by taking specific actions (choosing a burial site), arranged for her to be buried next to her husband, which would have been (but not made possible by the mistake) made possible by the practice of pre-selling graves adopted by the Community Council.
Adding that the Community Council admitted its mistake and decided to avoid any similar mistake in the future to stop the practice of selling graves, submitted, specific proposals to find some solution and approved the return of the amount of 1000 euros, as the request submitted by the complainant.
According to the content of the Commissioner's report, the complainant considers that she has been defrauded by the Community Council, as, among other things, it paid for a tomb, which the Community Council eventually sold elsewhere.
Finally, it states that the community council recognizes the mistake that was made, but does not admit the allegation that there was an intention or attempt to deceive the complainant.
