About 70 cases in the two schools of Limassol - New cases in a regional primary school

About 70 positive cases of coronavirus are estimated so far between teachers and students of two primary schools of Kato Polemidia, the 2nd Primary School of Agios Georgios and the 16th Primary School of Agios Nikolaos, while concerns and concerns prevail from increased incidents in the Unified District. “Iamatiki” School, in the Heptagonia.

As of yesterday, no student showed up at the 2nd Elementary School, while very few students showed up today at the 16th Elementary School, the President of the School Ephorate of Kato Polemidia, Andreas Theodorou, told KYPE.

He noted that the lessons continue, either through the Teams application, for those who are absent, or normally, for the few students who have chosen to be in their classes.

The parents' concern is understandable, he said, noting that all the planned actions are being carried out, while both schools were disinfected again yesterday.

Both the School Ephorate and the school administrations are waiting for instructions from the Ministry of Education on how to continue the education of the children, he added.

At the same time, the President of the Pancyprian Coordinating Committee of the School Ephorates, Dinos Ellinas, told KYPE that, according to the information so far, a total of about 70 cases of coronavirus are recorded in the two schools, between teachers and students.

Pending the tracking and the results of the rapid tests, this number may be higher, while increased cases, said Mr. Ellinas, are recorded at the Unified All-Day Regional Primary School “Iamatiki”, in the Heptagonia, but there are no specific numbers.

“The problem is that, especially, the primary school children are asymptomatic,” he said, adding that he attributed the increase in incidents, not so much to their school life, but to their afternoon activities and contacts.

And last time, in the first wave of the virus, he pointed out, it seemed to be the afternoon activities and contacts that started the problem in our schools, he said.

He assured, finally, that the schools faithfully implement the protocols and all the prescribed measures to ensure health.
