The Nicosia District Court decided on Friday to postpone the examination of the application to cancel the warrants for the seizure of the assets of the monks of the Holy Monastery of St. Avvakum, including the sum of 807 thousand euros.

During today's proceedings, representatives of the banks of Cyprus and Hellenic as well as the Land Registry were expected to appear, who would submit information and documents, which had been requested of them by the defense lawyers of the two monks on holiday, and which concern the origin of the sum of money, which was found in a safe, which was seized by the Holy Metropolis of Tamasos and Orini on the night of March 5, 2024 and then handed over to the Police.

However, the representatives of the financial institutions and the Land Registry did not appear at the hearing, with the court to adjourn the procedure and reschedule it for May 30, at 09:00, for planning.

In the meantime, present in the court were the two monks of the Holy Abvakum Monastery, as well as supporters of monks.

In the appeal filed by the defense attorney for the two monks on holiday, it is stated, among other things, that the amount of money found in a safe belongs to the Monastery and was intended for the expansion of the monastery's building facilities.

It is noted that the Holy Monastery of Saint Avvakum, in Fterikoudi, remains closed until now, while it is unknown when or if it will reopen.
