The organizations express strong concern about the long-term stagnation and the absence of dialogue to find a solution to the Cyprus issue
“To reaffirm in practicetheir commitment to the form of solution of the Cypriot problem, to the Bizonal Bi-communal Federation, with political equality, as defined in the UN resolutions”, call the leaders of the two communities in their joint declaration by the organizations PEO, DEV-IS, KTOS, KTOEOS, KTAMS, BES, KOOP-SEN, DAU-SEN, Bi-Community Peace Initiative “United Cyprus” on the occasion of September 1, International Day of Trade Union Action for Peace.
The organizations express “intense concern about the long-term stagnation and the absence of dialogue to find a solution to the Cyprus problem with the finalization of the partition becoming increasingly visible”, as they note.
“The talks on the Cyprus issue will they must immediately resume where they left off in Crans Montana by accepting the G.G.'s framework. and of the convergences to date and to continue until a result is achieved”, the organizations state in their declaration.
On the occasion of the international day of action for peace, with our joint declaration we once again send the message, they say, that “we will not compromise with division and we reiterate our commitment to continue our common struggle for the prevalence of peace and for the reunification of our homeland”.
“For a just and mutually acceptable solution to the Cyprus problem in the context of a bizonal, bicommunal federation, with one sovereignty, one citizenship and one international personality, with political equality as defined in the UN resolutions” and “for a demilitarized and independent state that will serve the Cypriots and which will transform our country into a bridge of peace and security for our entire region”, they add.
They state that “the common struggle of the workers of Cyprus to solve the Cyprus problem and reunify Cyprus is part of the wider struggle of the peoples of the world for world peace”.
The developments in our region, as they say, “remind us of the need for a solution to the Cyprus issue since the impression that the current status quo can provide stability and security is a dangerous illusion”.
At the same time, the organizations send ” thunderous message against armaments and imperialist interventions” and add that they continue “the common struggle for peace and reunification”.
Also, in their joint declaration, PEO, DEV-IS, KTOS, KTOEOS, KTAMS, BES, KOOP-SEN, DAU-SEN, Bi-Community Peace Initiative “United Cyprus” state that the World Trade Union Federation (WTF) established September 1, day of the start of Nazi Germany's attack on humanity in 1939 as a World Day of Trade Union Action for Peace in memory of the millions of victims of Nazism and fascism but also to remind us of the consequences of imperialist aggression.
They state that this year's day of action is of critical importance as wars and conflicts in all corners of the globe are on the rise, while tensions, aggression and militarization of international relations, as they add, “prompt humanity to intensify the arms race by increasing the danger of a generalized imperialist conflict with dire and unimaginable consequences”.
They also note that the war between Ukraine and Russia continues with dramatic consequences for both peoples and add that “the Government of Israel with the support of the US and its NATO allies continues to commit barbaric crimes and bombings in the Gaza Strip that have resulting in the death of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians, mainly women and children”.
“The blockade imposed by the state of Israel deprives Palestinians of access to medicine, water, food and electricity and further worsens the situation,” they add.
The a/k and t/k organizations are asking for an end to “Israel's criminal attack against the Palestinians” and “for the hostages to be released and for any obstacles to the dispatch of the necessary humanitarian aid to be removed”.
“We Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot workers condemn the genocide against the Palestinian people and express our solidarity and support for their right to an independent state based on UN resolutions that will ensure peace and security in the region,” they add.
They also state that the escalation of tensions in the Middle East and the risk of generalization of the war in the region is now visible and can cause incalculable consequences for the peoples.
“We stand against the militarization of the Eastern Mediterranean and any involvement of Cyprus in military operations”, they note, and add that “the instability of the international situation and the risks involved require participation and action in the struggle for peace”.
Furthermore, in their joint declaration with on the occasion of September 1st, the civil and military organizations report that “the Cypriot workers who for fifty years have been experiencing the results of the imperialist plans of NATO join their voices with the workers of the whole world in the struggle for the defense of peace, for the dissolution of NATO and all military coalitions, for a world without imperialist wars and interventions”.
“We join our voice with the millions of workers who claim money for education, health, social policy and not for equipment”, they add.
