The airlines Aegean and Cyprus Airways are moving forward in cooperation, which they are expected to announce officially at a press conference to be held within the next week. Information tells “K” that the deal is about sharing the airlines' flight codes – a marketing practice that essentially allows one airline to sell tickets for a flight operated by the other airline in the deal.

The choice of destinations to which code sharing will be applied and how it will affect the flights offered by the two companies is of interest.

Code sharing is used by airlines as it is considered to be a practice that strengthens or expands their market presence and competitive ability. In theory, it does not significantly benefit the smaller airlines, since in essence it increases the network of destinations it can provide.

In 2023, Aegean will operate in 165 destinations, in 46 countries with 272 direct routes, from a total of 10 bases of in Greece and abroad, with a fleet of 76 aircraft including the Airbus A320 and A321 neo. According to the company's latest data, in the January-May period it carried more than 5 million passengers, recording a 50% increase in passenger traffic compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

Cyprus Airways has two Airbus A320 aircraft , which currently operate a network of eighteen scheduled destinations including Beirut, Tel Aviv, Yerevan, Paris, Dubai, Rome, Zurich, Prague, Santorini, Skiathos, Rhodes, Preveza, Heraklion and Cairo.
