Issues concerning bus stops and shelters, as well as requests for upgrading the road network in Aglantzia, were raised in a meeting between the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Yannis Karousos and the Mayor, Andreas Konstantinou and the Members of the Municipal Council of Aglantzia. Funding of 300 thousand euros was announced to the municipality for a specific project in the road network of the region.
According to a statement from the GTP, in the context of the said meeting, the Minister stated that “one of the policies we have adopted at the Ministry of Transport is that we use the local authorities to act as contracting authorities on our behalf because in this way we we secure the funding for the local authority and the local authority implements the project on our behalf.
He added that "a significant number of projects have been implemented in this way and today, through the Ministry of Transport, a funding of €300,000 will be secured, so that the Municipality of Aglantzia, with its own procedures, can proceed with the marking (painting) of the bus lane on Aglantzias and Larnakos Avenue».
For his part, the Mayor of Aglantzias welcomed and thanked the Minister of Transport for his presence in the municipality, but also for the immediate response to the requests that the Municipality of Aglantzias put before him Ministry in relation to infrastructure projects.
He noted that the Minister of Transport, "with the transfer of the amount for painting the bus lane fulfills the assurance he gave to the Municipal Council of Aglantzia in our standing request".
The Mayor warmly congratulated the Minister of Transport as well as the relevant departments for the efforts being made for sustainable mobility, saying that "and the Municipality of Aglantzia as a modern municipality wants to be a participant with joint actions in this effort».
