Ministers of Agriculture, Finance and Interior discussed possible compensatory measures
A meeting with the Ministers of the Interior and Finance was held by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Kostas Kadis, against the backdrop of the Akamas Local Plan which will be heard on Wednesday (22/02) before the Council of Ministers.
Speaking to “SPORT FM 95.0” and the program “DISPORA EIDISEON”, Mr. Kadis said that during the meeting possible compensatory measures were discussed which “will help the communities of the region to develop further, in a sustainable way”, taking into account the limitations or possibilities opened up based on the Local Plan. He added that during the meeting the Ministry of the Environment reached some recommendations to the other Ministries, noting that concerns were expressed about some of the measures, with the final discussion taking place tomorrow during the Ministerial.
Mr. Kadis clarified that the Local Plan has been completed and that on Tuesday morning (21/02) the final opinion of the Department of Environment was sent on the changes made so that the Plan is consistent with the conditions set by the Environmental Authority. “The Local Plan as it has been formulated deals in a positive way with the objections or the conditions set by the environmental authority. It is ready for publication and can be announced by the Minister of the Interior at any time,” he explained.
When asked if the issue of compensation was discussed and if the amounts have been varied, Mr. Kadis emphasized that “we are not referring to compensation but in some compensatory measures which will act as compensation for the reduction in the value of the land as a result of the local plan. We are not talking about something that will be applied universally to all owners of the Akama area but to those who previously had development rights”.
