AKEL announcement on the risk of military escalation in our region
The explosive tension in our region and the risk of a generalized conflict is a nightmare scenario for all the states and peoples of our neighborhood. “AKEL reiterates that international law and the interest of our country dictate that there be no direct or indirect involvement of Cyprus in military operations and tension. There should be no facilitation of any kind to ships involved in or supporting war operations, such as the tanker Overseas Santorini currently sailing the Mediterranean transporting fuel to the Israeli army. And the conducting of an exercise with US military forces, as announced by the Ministry of Defense, in addition to all the other issues we have raised repeatedly, raises serious questions about the messages it sends at this particular critical juncture”.
Cyprus continues its announcement, it must join its voice with all those in the international community who are working for de-escalation of tension, cessation of hostilities and the Israeli war in Gaza in order to pave the way for a solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of UN resolutions , for permanent peace and security in our region.
