The alarm was sounded in Teesside in north-east England, with a primary school placed on lockdown and armed police storming a neighboring facility, having blocked roads across the wider County Durham area.
In message sent by the management of the institution, parents who were taking their children to school were asked to take them to the main hall, as the police operation was in progress.
“Due to an ongoing police incident at Portrack estate, if your child is coming to school you can take them to the main hall,” the message read, while a witness said, among other things, that “armed police are everywhere on St Anne’s Terrace . The school is in lockdown and all children go to the main hall, parents are not allowed to enter the school premises”.
A police spokesman said: “Police are currently executing a number of warrants in the Stockton area as part of an ongoing operation. Armed and unarmed officers are involved in the activity, as well as special investigation officers and a dog unit. The cordon remains in effect on surrounding streets. We will issue further information about this activity as soon as possible.”
