New digital services of the Ministry of Labor with a modern and friendly face and with the citizen at the center is the goal of the new digital portal of the state that was put into operation.
Specifically, today, at a joint press conference of the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance Kyriakos I. Kousios, and the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Kyriakos Kokkinos, the new state web portal “gov.cy”, one of the most important reforms Government projects, with high added value and a direct impact on the daily life of the citizen, as well as the course of modernization and digitization of the services of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance.

With a modern aesthetic and functional approach, content and functions that will be continuously enriched and upgraded, the “gov.cy” portal will be, in its integrated form, the one and only point of contact for citizens and businesses with the public sector, both in terms of electronic transactions as well as updating and information. Hosting all public digital services and all government websites under one umbrella, the “gov.cy” portal will bring together everything a citizen needs to know and use to communicate and interact with government services, including, among others , common mechanisms for user registration and management (CY Login), electronic payments and electronic signature of documents.
At this stage, the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy launches the operation of the intermediate solution of the “gov.cy” portal, which integrates more than 350 existing digital public services, which are presented categorized in thematic sections based on life events or business activity , while there is also a search function for quick and easy finding of results. At the same time, the Deputy Ministry focuses on the development of quality digital services, through the group of experts of the Digital Services Factory, who, in collaboration with the Government Digital Service of the United Kingdom, and utilizing flexible methodology and modern ways of working, have developed a new philosophy, which puts the citizen and his real needs at the center of the whole effort. A prime example of this innovative approach is the Social Insurance Services' Childbirth Assistance service, which has been designed, developed and improved on the basis of feedback from real users, resulting in a service that is simple and fast, providing citizens with a clear and understandable information, without requiring the submission of information and documents already held by the public.
Finally, during the conference, additional initiatives were announced that are part of the wider modernization and digitization of the Ministry of Labour, such as the digital services for Maternity and Unemployment Benefits, which will be announced within the month, as well as applications for Institutional Pension and Widow's Pension, which follow. Finally, special mention was made of the new citizen teleservice center for the services of the Ministry of Labor and the Deputy Ministry of Welfare, which will be operational in the Autumn of 2022, and which will be the prelude to a pan-Cypriot center that will cover the entire range of public services , with the aim of establishing a common number that ensures valid, timely and quality citizen service.
According to the Minister of Labour, Kyriakos I. Kousios, “through the use of digital tools and mechanisms, the efficiency of the government machine is enhanced, valuable time is saved and the cost of processing tasks is drastically reduced, freed human resources to be utilized in more essential tasks, and most importantly, which is also the main goal set by the President of the Republic, the best and most direct service to the citizens is achieved.”
In his own presentation, the Deputy Minister, Kyriakos Kokkinos, emphasized that through the portal “gov.cy” the government acquires a single identity and a more citizen-friendly face. “This upgraded image”, said the Deputy Minister, “catalystically contributes to the building of a relationship of trust between the state and citizens, as well as to the strengthening of the country's image in the international business community”.
