Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease
The Ministry of Health announces that today, July 19, 2021:
- Five people have died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 390.
- 228 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 56 are in serious condition. 91.2% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.
- A total of 69,464 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
- 1,056 (positivity rate: 1.52%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 92,252 .
The current results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:
The five people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:
- A 77-year-old man who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
- A 66-year-old man who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
- An 88-year-old man who ended up at the Limassol General Hospital.
- A 92-year-old woman who ended up at the Nicosia General Hospital.
- A 35-year-old man who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 390, of which:
- 260 men (67%), and
- 130 women (33%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 77.2 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 228 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 56 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 56 patients in serious condition, 22 are intubated in the Intensive Care Unit and 34 in the Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 69,464 diagnoses made today, 7,483 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 61,981 by the antigen rapid test, 1,056 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:
- 27 cases from 223 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 21 cases from 3,306 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 253 cases from 3,451 samples taken through private initiative.
- 37 cases from 388 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2 cases from 115 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
- 82 cases from 2,054 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 634 cases from 59,927 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.
