Ambassador Israel: Our cooperation will not be harmed

– It is an important visit which is part of our excellent relations in the last decade. A period during which we have seen many visits of Cypriot leaders to Israel and Israeli officials in Cyprus. It is a strong indication of the excellent relationships we have today, of the cooperation we have and covers a wide range of issues. It is an opportunity to discuss these issues and at the same time to show both peoples where our very good relations stand. & Nbsp;

The visit comes at a stage where we have interesting developments in our region. As it is known, President Herzog visited Greece, now he is coming to Cyprus and next week he will go to Turkey. Within a period of two weeks he visits our close neighbors. And in this context it is an important visit. & Nbsp;

– Is there a special reason why he travels to the three countries at this time?

– There is a separate reason for each visit. The visit to Greece was planned a long time ago and would take place anyway. The visit to Turkey was recently discussed and is part of an effort to improve Israel's relations with Turkey. & Nbsp;

In this context, it was considered that it was logical, since he would go to Greece and Turkey, to come to Cyprus as well. In order to send the message that Cyprus is an integral part of this region and the relations between the countries of the region. He also wants to demonstrate the excellent relations between the two countries. & Nbsp;

The trip is part of a package that demonstrates the existing excellent relations we have with Greece and Cyprus as well as our efforts to improve them. our relations with Turkey. & nbsp;

– There have been several discussions and many see Herzog's visit to Turkey as a development that will also change Israel's relations with Cyprus. & nbsp;

– Israel's foreign policy in recent years is very clear about what exactly it seeks. We try to have better relations with our neighbors, with countries that are close to us. We see it in the tripartite with Greece and Cyprus, we see it in relation to our relations with Egypt and Jordan that have improved. We can see it through the Abrahamic Agreements that brought the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco to this group of friends. We try to have good relations with our neighbors because it is good for all of us and the region. & Nbsp;

Turkey is also part of this region and if we can have better relations with it, I believe it will be to the benefit of Israel and the region. & Nbsp;

– Regarding these alliances and agreements we know that Turkey was not in favor. & nbsp;

– Different countries may have different views on developments and what is happening in the region. We also have objections to some of Turkey's policies in the region. The fact that you can not look someone in the eye does not mean that you can not have some form of dialogue and try to explain your positions. & Nbsp;

Even if there are policies that either Turkey or the Israel promotes and who do not identify this does not mean that efforts should not be made to improve relations between them. It does not mean that they will agree on everything we do and certainly neither will we agree on everything they do. But we can find a modus vivendi that will allow us to have better relationships. & Nbsp;
