Ambassador Olympia Neocleous: The first female Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN Office in Geneva

Ambassador Olympia Neocleous became the first woman to be accredited as the Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN Office in Geneva since the establishment of the Permanent Representation of the Republic in Geneva in the 1970s.

According to an announcement published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Neokleous presented her credentials last Thursday as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the Director-General of the United Nations Office in Geneva, Tatiana Valovagia at the Palace of Nations.

Welcoming the new Permanent Representative of Cyprus, Ms. Valovagia referred to the wide range of activities of the UN Office in Geneva, as well as ongoing initiatives in its areas of responsibility, including the promotion of the 2030 Agenda for Development, gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Thanking for the briefing, Ms. Neokleous reaffirmed the full support of the Republic of Cyprus to the actions of the United Nations Office.

Taking the opportunity, he also informed about the latest illegal and provocative actions of Turkey in relation to the enclosed area of Famagusta, which are a blatant violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions and aim to create new ones on the ground with a negative impact on the paid by the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the settlement of the Cyprus problem on the agreed basis of the bi-zonal bi-communal federation.
