Analyzing the statue of Diana and the three unknown children around her

The choice to capture Diana with three unknown children instead of alone, as the sculptor himself revealed, was made to honor her humanitarian action and the warmth she showed to the children.

The unveiling of the long-awaited statue of Diana at Sunken Garden has taken place and is probably not exactly what we expected, nor the world at large. The bronze statue was erected in her favorite garden at Kensington Palace on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of her death and the 60th anniversary of her birth, and its creation began in 2017 when it was commissioned to Ian Rank by William and Harry.

However, the shape of the statue disappointed. The familiar smile – or at least a smirk – that was almost always on Diana's face is absent here. Her facial features do not particularly refer to her true face and do not exude the grace and vitality we knew. Her body looks heavy, ungrateful, with a crumpled skirt and a shirt that is too open. Note that the statue was based on a photo where Diana is wearing these clothes and holding the two princes.

The choice to capture Diana with three unknown children instead of alone, as the sculptor himself revealed, was made to honor her humanitarian action and the warmth she showed to the children.

“We felt that if the princess was standing alone, she would look isolated. And if one thing came to mind while talking to her friends and relatives, it was that she was a very friendly woman, and she had a special love for children. In many ways, the statue refers to its humanitarian action, '' Rank said.
