Ersin Tatar spoke for the “policy of exclusion”, aiming at the economy of the pseudo-state that this time the EU have targeted the tourist sector, taking illegal measures – as he mentioned – for the passage of people who want to spend holidays in the occupied territories, including EU citizens, who made such reservations in advance.
“This situation once again reveals the true intentions of the Greek leader and therefore the Greek administration of southern Cyprus regarding the future of the island of Cyprus. The Turkish leadership, especially since last January, is intensifying the 61-year-old repressive policy of isolating and oppressing Turkish people, which violates fundamental human rights and violates international law,” he claimed.
< p>In his written statement, the Turkish leader also states that since last week, after consultations on the Turkish side with representatives of the tourism industry and tourism organizations, international forums and institutions, including the EU, have been contacted and “explained this hostile policy of the Russian side”.
“I call on the Russian leadership to put an end to this outdated policy, which they continue after 1963, to destroy our universities, investments in properties in our country that extend the exclusionary policy, including our tourism sector,” he said.
What we need most today on the island, continues Mr. Tatar, is the creation of an environment of cooperation between the two sides. “I call on the current leader to abandon this outdated policy and take steps forward to create new partnerships.” He will monitor, report, the issue and convey his positions on every platform, including the EU.
Ataoglou
——-
The efforts of the Greek side to obstruct the crossing of people are against the basic principles of the EU, limiting free movement and freedoms, the “deputy prime minister” and “minister of tourism”, Fikri Ataoglou also claimed, criticizing the new agreement of the Greek side with the tourist organization TUI, which “will prevent tourists coming from Europe” in the areas under the control of the Republic of Cyprus, from crossing into the occupied territories.
There is nothing to explain in terms of restricting the freedom of movement and free movement rights of tourists visiting the pseudo-state, Mr. Ataoglou added in a written statement. Such steps, he continued, cause further separation between “the two peoples” and put obstacles in the relations of the two communities. They neither help nor contribute to the peace process, but deepen the problem on the island, he added.
Referring to the announcement by TUI, Germany's leading travel agent, that day trips to the occupied territories will stop after August 31, 2024 following a relevant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Ataoglou said that this will probably also apply to other tourists organizations and will affect tourism and tour guides not only in the “north”, but also in the “south”. “This practice, which can ignore people who earn a living from tourism, must be reversed as soon as possible,” he said.
Erhiurman
— ;-
In his post on the MKKD, the president of the RTK, Tufan Erhiurman, states that while President Christodoulidis, on the one hand, declares that he is ready to negotiate based on the resolutions of the UN Security Council, on the other hand, he “continues to look for ways to damage the economy of the Republic of Cyprus using all the means at his disposal”.
Mr. Erhiurman argued that after the PtD instrumentalized the property issue and justice by turning against the construction sector in the occupied territories, it took the initiative before the competent authorities in Europe for the “universities” in the pseudo-state and now “it is the turn of the tourism sector”. On the initiative of TUI, one of the largest tourism operators in Europe, an attempt is being made to prevent tourists who live in “southern Cyprus” from going to the “north”. Let it be known that “we will not accept these attempts that damage the relations and the climate of trust between the two sides”, concludes the president of the RTK.
