For years, this year as well, October 4th has been celebrated as World Animal Day
Although the Cypriot Government has ratified the European Convention for the Protection and Welfare of Animals since 1993, little has been done to effectively defend the rights and provide effective protection of animals. This day has been established by the forces of Ecology in Cyprus as a day of adoption of stray animals.
In addition to informing citizens about how to protect and curb stray animals, citizens today can adopt dogs and kittens, provided they are ready to welcome them as equal members of their families. In Cyprus, there are three issues we have to deal with. Initially the issue of informing and raising awareness of the owners, in order for them to become really responsible. On the other hand, we have before us the challenge of formulating an appropriate legal framework and finally an institutional structure with staffed services that will be able to act immediately and punish those owners who torture or abandon their pets.
In view of the World Animal Day, the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation, the Simba Animal Aid Cyprus shelter and the Nicosia Pedestrian Association co-organize the event “I walk with my dog” on Sunday 3/10/2021, at 11:00 – 12:30 .
The event will take place on the pedestrian street of Ledra, 100 meters from Eleftherias Square, in the cafe “Pieto”.
Come all of us to walk with our dogs and with dogs from the shelter! Our goal is to inform the world about the well-being of domestic and stray animals, to make people aware of the animals that live on the streets of our city and to learn what they can do to help them, but also to give the opportunity to dogs from the shelter to be adopted and find the love they deserve.
We invite all of you with your presence to give a loud message to the world that RESPECT FOR ANIMALS means CULTURE.
