The Industrial Production Index for March 2022 reached 135.7 points (base 2015 = 100), recording an increase of 6.9% compared to March 2021, according to data released by the Statistical Service on Monday.
In the manufacturing sector there was an increase of 2.2% compared to March 2021. An increase was also recorded in the sectors of electricity supply (27.5%) and water supply and materials recovery (19 , 5%). The mining and quarrying sector decreased by 7.8% compared to March 2021.
According to the Statistical Service, in the manufacturing sector, the most significant positive changes compared to March 2021 occurred in the production of textiles, clothing and leather, with an increase of 44.3%, in the manufacture of furniture and repair/installation of machinery and equipment, recording an increase of 17.8%, in the production of petroleum refining products, chemicals/products and pharmaceuticals and preparations, with 10.2%, in the manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment, with 6.1 % & nbsp; and in the manufacture of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment, with 2.5%.
The most significant negative changes were observed in the activities of paper and paper products and printing, recording a decrease of 16.6%, in the wood & nbsp; industry and the manufacture of wood and cork products, excluding furniture, with a decrease of 12.7% & nbsp; and in the production of basic after and manufacture of & nbsp; metal products, with -4.5%.
During the period January – March 2022, the index showed an increase of 5.2% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Comparing the rates of change for the period January – March 2022 with the corresponding period of 2021, the most significant increases are observed in the economic activities of the production of textiles, clothing and leather with 58%, in the collection, treatment & nbsp; and supply & nbsp; of water, with 46 , 4%, in the supply of & nbsp; electricity with 20.1%, in the manufacture of & nbsp; electronic/optical products and electrical equipment with an increase of 13.4%, in the manufacture & nbsp; of furniture and repair/installation & nbsp; of machinery and equipment with 12.3%. In addition, the sector of & nbsp; manufacture & nbsp; machinery & equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment increased by 5.7% & nbsp; and the production of & nbsp; petroleum refining, chemical and chemical products , 9%.
The activities in which the most significant reductions in production are observed compared to the period January – March 2021 were those of material recovery with a decrease of 14.4%, the wood industry and the manufacture of wood products and cork, except furniture with a decrease of 12.9%, of paper and paper products with printing -10.1%, of non-metallic mineral products with -9.6% & nbsp; and of mines and quarries with -7 , 2%.
