Antone: What did he do… after the 2006 championship

Must read

For an official, if nothing else, the Romanian coach is experienced

Αντονε: Τι ωταθλημα του 2006

Bogdan Antone the fourth… for this year's Apollo, with the Romanian succeeding Alexander Zorniger, David Katala and Konstantinos Makridis. It is obviously a name that is not only unknown to the fans of the “blue-whites”, as the former midfielder successfully played for the Limassol team from 2003 to 2008, celebrating, among other things, the championship of the 2005-2006 season.

After his retirement in the summer of 2008, he played in Alki, Hermi and Farul Kostana in his hometown, where he hung up his football boots in 2010, to start immediately after his involvement in coaching.

More specifically, from 2010 to 2016 he was an assistant to his compatriot, Marius Simuditsa. He worked with the former Omonia footballer (2004) at Rapid Bucharest, Cluj, Al-Shab, Concordia and Astra. In fact, with the latter they also celebrated winning the championship in 2016!

In July 2016, he was announced by Olympia, where he worked for the first time as head coach. The team in question was then competing in the second division of Romania and stayed there until the end of the season. From the summer of 2017 until January 2019, he worked at Poli, Metaloglobus and Energeticianul, also teams of B' Romania.

In the winter of 2019, he was hired by Steaua Bucharest as an assistant coach to Mihai Techa. The 44-year-old stayed on the “electric bench” of the Becali team for 15 matches, with Antone taking over as caretaker coach the same summer. He lasted just seven matches there, because despite the two qualifiers for the Europa League… the Steaua boss kicked him out as well.

After this experience, the new coach of Apollo remained in the first division of his country to work in Astra and Volundari. In both of these teams he remained for 21 matches in total… and while his last station was Poli (second division of Romania), from which he left in September 2022.

These are what the new official did coach of the “Blues” after his first departure from last year's champions and if nothing else we can say that he does not seem to be only inexperienced. Of course, in order to be considered successful, he will have to improve the negative atmosphere that prevails in Kolossi and close the season as well as possible.
